Our Adirondack Story Starts on the Water

At Frisky Otter Tours, our story begins with a simple belief: the wilderness should feel welcoming. Since 2007, our locally owned paddling business in Inlet, NY, has helped people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities experience the beauty of the Adirondacks by kayak, canoe, and paddleboard.

Founded by Connie Perry, a NYS Licensed Guide and American Canoe Association Certified Instructor, Frisky Otter Tours was built to make outdoor recreation more personal, more accessible, and a whole lot more joyful.

Why We Started Frisky Otter Tours

Frisky Otter Tours grew out of Connie Perry’s lifelong love of teaching, nature, and helping people discover what they are capable of.

Before starting our guiding service, Connie spent 10 years managing a paddlesports and outdoor gear store in the Adirondacks. But her roots go even deeper. Her background in education, recreational therapy, and outdoor leadership shaped the heart of our business long before our first tour ever launched.

Connie had worked as a Recreation Therapist for people with disabilities and as an outdoor leader for an alternative school in Montana. Those experiences taught her that the outdoors can change a person. Not just in a “that was fun” kind of way, but in a real, confidence-building, soul-settling way.

The problem was that not everyone felt invited into outdoor recreation.

Some people thought paddling was only for athletes. Some worried about balance, mobility, age, fear, experience, or physical limitations. Connie saw that gap and decided to do something about it.

Our Mission: Making the Water Feel Possible

Our mission as a canoe and kayak tour agency is to help every guest feel safe, capable, and connected to nature.

That may sound simple, but it guides everything we do. We do not believe in one-size-fits-all wilderness experiences. We believe your trip should match your comfort level, your goals, your pace, and your physical ability.

For some guests, that means a peaceful first-time paddle surrounded by Adirondack scenery. For others, it means refining technique, exploring new routes, planning a family outing, or creating an adaptive paddling experience for someone who never thought kayaking or canoeing was possible.

We meet people where they are, then help them go a little farther than they thought they could.

Guided by Experience Patience, and Joy

Connie’s approach is outgoing, patient, enthusiastic, and deeply personal. She is the kind of guide who remembers returning paddlers a year later and helps them plan something completely new, fresh, and meaningful.

That kind of care is not something we fake. It is who we are.

As a NYS Licensed Guide and an ACA Certified Instructor for both kayaking and canoeing, Connie brings professional training to every outing. Her specialized experience supporting individuals with disabilities adds another layer of trust, especially for guests who need thoughtful adaptations, reassurance, or extra patience on the water.

Our guests choose Frisky Otter Tours because they know we are not just pointing to a route and sending them off. We are teaching, guiding, listening, adjusting, and celebrating right alongside them.

Family Outdoors

Built for All Ages and Abilities

Over the years, we have welcomed absolute beginners, advanced kayakers, families, parents and children, seniors, and individuals with physical disabilities or handicaps.

Every guest brings a different story to the water. Some arrive excited. Some arrive nervous. Some arrive convinced they will be the “hard one” in the group.

Our answer is always the same: we will figure it out together.

That is where Connie’s background in recreational therapy makes such a difference. She can read a person’s needs, adapt the experience, and create a setting where guests feel supported instead of judged. A breakthrough on the water may look like paddling across a quiet lake, learning a clean stroke, stepping into a canoe without fear, or simply relaxing enough to notice the mountains reflected in the water.

Those moments matter to us.

Our Adirondack Home in Inlet, NY

We are located in Inlet, New York, in the heart of the Adirondacks, where clean water, forested shorelines, mountain air, and quiet coves create an unforgettable setting for paddling.

This region gives us the perfect classroom and playground. The Adirondacks are wild, beautiful, and full of variety, which allows us to design experiences that match each guest. Some days call for peaceful nature watching. Some call for skill-building. Some call for family laughter, splashy paddleboard attempts, and memories that will be retold for years.

Our local knowledge helps us choose the right experience, not just the most obvious one.

Tens of Thousands of Happy Paddlers

Frisky Otter Tours has proudly served 96,366 happy paddlers, and that number means more to us than a milestone on a website.

It represents first-time kayakers who found their courage. Families who made a vacation memory together. Guests with disabilities who felt the freedom of movement on the water. Returning paddlers who trusted us again. People who came looking for an activity and left with a deeper connection to the natural world.

We never take that trust lightly.

What Makes Our Trips Different

Our trips are tailored, personal, and built around the guest.

We ask questions. We listen closely. We consider ability, comfort, timing, conditions, interests, and goals. Then we shape the experience so it feels right. That is why so many guests say their trip exceeded expectations.

At Frisky Otter Tours, “guided” does not mean scripted. It means cared for.

We believe a great paddling experience should feel safe without feeling stiff, adventurous without feeling overwhelming, and memorable without feeling manufactured.
